Ricky Hatton has lost a serious amount of weight and pulled off an impressive body transformation ahead of his return to boxing.

The British fight legend is set to climb back between the ropes once again for an exhibition bout with Marco Antonio Barrera on Saturday night in Manchester.

During his career, the ‘Hitman’ was famed for ballooning up in weight in between fights.

Since retiring, he's of course no longer needed to make weight at all and so enjoyed life with a heavier physique.

As a result, many questioned whether he’d now be able to lose the pounds again after a decade without having to do so.

Former world champion Hatton has already proved these doubters wrong.

In recent pictures posted to social media over, the 44-year-old looks years younger in a slimmed down frame.

Hatton even managed to keep the weight off while on holiday, which is a tough task for anyone.

“I've been having a few Guinness here and there, because I've been able to keep on top of it," Hatton told The Sun.

“I went to Tenerife for five weeks. Normally I'd put on a stone and a half but I went there and put four or five pounds on. Everyone was like "f***!"  but that's the way it's going to be now.

“It's not gonna be ‘I'm 44, I'm gonna put my feet up, pipe and slippers’.

“You get a little bit older, a bit wiser and things have to change a little bit.”

"When I jumped on the scales at the start of training it was 15st 4lbs," Hatton continued.

"And the weigh-in is this Friday which is made at 11st 7lbs. And I'm 11st 7lbs now.

"It's been a long way to come. I'm 44 years of age, and the shape that I've got myself in has taken a lot of hard work.

"It's been great to give myself a target, a goal. It's been great for my own wellbeing.

"I've had so many message of support from people who have struggled with their weight. They say to see me from where I was a few years ago to where I am now is an inspiration.

"It makes me feel very, very proud that I'm not just going to be back in the ring again, and hear the roar of the crowd again, but also that it's inspired people. That's more important for me."

Hatton will be back at his beloved Manchester Arena to face Barrera ten years after retiring for good following his defeat to Vyacheslav Senchenko in 2012.

He had unprecedented fan support in the UK, and particularly at home in Manchester, during the height of his career.

The two-weight world champion unified titles at super-lightweight (140lbs) and also went up to claim a belt at welterweight (147lbs).

However, he fell short in his fights with generational greats Floyd Mayweather, in 2007, and Manny Pacquiao, in 2009.

Hatton initially quit the sport after the Pacquiao loss, only to announce a shock comeback three years later, which resulted in his defeat to Senchenko.

It will be almost ten years since that night when the ‘Hitman‘ returns to the Manchester Arena on November 12 to box Barrera in their exhibition.
